The spring spotlight for 2024 focuses on the world-renowned Yosemite National Park in central California.
Yosemite covers over 1,169 square miles in the Sierra Nevada mountains, surrounded by Sierra National Forest, Inyo National Forest, and Stanislaus National Forest.
This remarkable park offers gargantuan cliffs, awe-inspiring scenic valleys, and some of the most magnificent waterfalls on Earth.

Geology
Yosemite’s oldest rocks formed from sediments and submarine volcanic material hundreds of millions of years ago.
The collision of tectonic plates later pushed the sediments eastward.
As ages passed these rocks metamorphosed and eroded, but some metamorphic rock remains.
Over a hundred million years ago molten rock rose up through the Earth’s crust, creating the magnificent rock formations Yosemite is known for today.
